Accident leads to shooting confrontation at MTN Taxi Rank

JOHANNESBURG CENTRAL – An accident between a Rea Vaya bus and a Toyota car on Monday night (15 July) left a Rea Vaya bus driver and his passengers fearing for their lives.


An accident which led to a shooting confrontation took place on the corner of Plein and Twist streets after a Rea Vaya bus bumped into a car.

Spokesperson for the Metro police, Wayne Minnaar, said, “It was an accident between a Rea Vaya bus and a Toyota car. The occupants got out of the Toyota, one smashed the window of the bus and another shot one of the tyres of the bus flat.”

Minnaar added that the bus driver and the passengers fled the scene of the accident leaving the bus unattended. The occupants of the Toyota also fled the scene.

According to reports, Rea Vaya spokeswoman Corrine Lekhoane said they had received information that the occupants of the car retaliated and attempted to attack and shoot the driver but he fled with the passengers.

No injuries were reported when Metro police officials arrived at the scene.
