Support local at the Kamers/Makers Spring Market from 27 August to 1 September
HOUGHTON – Support local hand-made products at the Kamers/Makers Spring Market hosted by St John's College.
Community members are encouraged to support local entrepreneurs at the Kamers/Makers Spring Market at St John’s College from 27 August to 1 September.
The evening market seeks to celebrate truly local craft, design, decor, fashion and food against the backdrop of the beautiful St John’s College.
Online marketing manager and features editor at Kamers/Makers Charl du Preez said, “We are excited to return to St John’s College, one of our favourite Kamers/Makers autumn venues, but this time with a brand-new spring event.”
“This edition will boast over 60 makers that have never been seen at a Kamers/Makers Joburg show. In addition, over 100 fan favourites will return with beautiful new handcrafted products to showcase,” said du Preez.
Their gala charity moonlight market on 27 August functions to aid the Realema Teacher Intern Programme. Realema works with schools like St John’s to train teachers from underprivileged backgrounds through an internship programme. All proceeds from ticket sales for the moonlight market will go to Realema.
Du Preez said, “There’s a well-known quote among our makers that goes something like this: ‘When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a little happy dance’. This really is true. By supporting our makers, you are enabling them to keep living out their creative and entrepreneurial dreams. You are helping them put food on their tables. You are helping them upskill workers and create jobs. You are building the economy from the bottom up.”
All tickets include a limited edition Kamers/Makers shopper bag, a Consol glass curvy water bottle and a magazine. Tickets can be purchased online on www.plankton.mobi for R70. Tickets can also be purchased at the entrance for R100 or multi-entry tickets (allowing you to visit the market on numerous occasions) for R130. The market is open between 4pm and 8pm each day.
