Residents clean-up their suburbs
LYNDHURST – A group of residents and members of the Lyndhurst and Corlett Gardens clean-up Pretoria Road
Members of the recently established Lyndhurst and Corlett Gardens Residents Association are encouraging people to get more involved in their community developments.
On Sunday, 18 August members of the association gathered at Pretoria Road to clean-up the area. This was done in an effort to keep their suburbs clean.
Ward 81 councilor Irene Rugheimer and Loraine Miriri from the City of Johannesburg’s Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) joined the campaign.
The association co-founder Gary Rubin said it was one of their main tasks to keep the area clean at all times.
Although he expected a huge turnout, he insisted that he would continue to encourage residents to get more involved in the association’s initiatives.
“We are here to clean-up down Pretoria Road because we have to keep our area clean,” he said.
Since the association was started, four WhatsApp groups have already been established to help residents communicate with each other and address the issues in their respective communities.
“We have a Facebook that is being developed, it is up and running, we just want to make it more interactive,” said Rubin.
He said the clean-up campaign is scheduled for every third week of the month.
Rubin encourages people to participate in these clean-up initiatives as this will also help them to get to know each other.
“Slowly, but surely, we will go to different areas and in December we will try to be early because people go away but we will have it cleaned up.”
