A 30-year-old suspected drug dealer was arrested by the Johannesburg police doing their routine police patrol in the CBD.
The suspect was arrested on the corner of Marshall and Goud streets on 7 October by officers of the Johannesburg Central Police Station.
Captain Xoli Mbele, the spokesperson for the police station, said officers were busy with their routine crime prevention patrol when they saw two suspicious men exchanging what looked like a plastic bag.

When the officers approached the men they ran away in different directions, Mbele said.
“The police managed to apprehend one of the suspects and recovered mandrax [tablets] and cash of about R880 and he was immediately arrested and detained,” he added.
“Johannesburg District Commander Major General Masha commended members for apprehending suspects who distribute drugs to the community.”
Mbele said the commander had encouraged the community to report people dealing in drugs to the police adding that working together with the community could yield more positive results.
An investigation is still underway and the suspect is expected to appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
