Maps lets his Buns Out

JOBURG – Maps Maponyane’s Buns Out is an instant hit.

With less than a month since opening its doors, Linden’s Buns Out has been on everyone’s lips. The local eatery boasts an assortment of succulent burgers, a minimalistic aesthetic and smiles allaround. TV and media personality, Maps Maponyane is one of the owners of the new burger joint and first broke the news of its opening on social media.

“I’m excited to share that I’ve just opened my first restaurant. A burger spot in Linden, Johannesburg called Buns Out. Come through for a great quality burger! We’re open every day,” Maponyane said in a Twitter post.

A foodie and entrepreneurial individual himself, his announcement sparked widespread excitement from fans, celebrities and locals alike.

“My work has given me a more influential base. It also broadened my network, hence, I am able to make an impact in different aspects. People also feel like they can trust me as a person who is also a brand,” said Maponyane.

He said his entrepreneurial journey was pre-ordained as he had always been interested in owning a business that would also include his passion for people.

“My business is all about working with people, hence this has given me the platform to engage with them more.”

Taking on uncharted territory, Maponyane said the unpredictability of restaurateuring makes it more challenging. He said a major skill that one needs to grasp was adapting and embracing new challenges.

“It’s already been quite a ride, the journey ahead looks like it’s going to be a thrill of note.”

The menu boasts 12 different burgers, from the Classic to the Go Nuts burger which contains a golden deep-fried chicken schnitzel dunked in a sweet and sticky peanut sauce – most of which sold out within its first week.

“Week one was something else! People came from Pretoria, Bloem, Witbank, Durban, Rustenburg just to try Buns Out.”

Working with a young and creative team, Maponyane said it was difficult separating his personal lifestyle from the business. However, he said including his work into his personal lifestyle has worked for him as he has found a balance.

“The entire team is exceptional. Hence, I’m solely basing my life on this team. The integrity, great service, it is a whole package.” Buns Out has seen the likes of Dr John Kani, Sizwe Dhlomo, Ntando Duma, Amanda Du Pont and more visit Linden’s newest and hippest burger spot.
