Mobile Clinic opens in the inner city

BENROSE – The mobile clinic located in Benrose will serve communities in the inner city, Jeppestown and surrounding areas.

The City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba was joined by MMC for Health and Social Development Dr Mpho Phalatse as they launched a mobile clinic for residents in the inner city today (29 October).

This is part of the City’s efforts to extend access to healthcare to areas and communities they feel were excluded from the healthcare system. The clinic is located in George Koch, New Gosch Road, Benrose. The mobile clinic will serve communities in Jeppestown, the inner city and surrounding areas.

Some services offered include chronic system, HAST( HIV counselling and testing, ART initiation, TB screening and treatment), reproductive health, prostate cancer screening and PAP smears.

Phalatse said the mobile clinic will have a referral system to Jeppe Clinic Facility and Esselen Street Clinic. She added that the City has rolled out five of the nine mobile clinics across the city.

Mashaba explained when he took over the reins of the administration in 2016 they identified that healthcare was one of the key things in improving services to Johannesburg residents. “The health of our residents became a priority of this multi-party government that I run, our people are sick, our people were dying in our informal settlements.”

It is the main reason why the City extended the hours of many clinics and the initiative of launching mobile clinics in key areas.

The mayor officially opened the doors with a little snip, watch:
