Man electrocuted by High Voltage Chamber

George Goch – The man was certified dead on the scene after paramedics arrived at a City Power factory in Herriotdale near George Goch.

City Power Johannesburg said an unidentified man was killed while trying to paint a City Power High Voltage Chamber (HVC) situated inside a factory in Herriotdale near George Goch, Johannesburg on 11 November.

Spokesperson for City Power Isaac Mangena said, “It is reported that two employees at the factory made an illegal entry into our HVC around 9.30am on Monday morning, after being instructed by the company owner to paint the chamber without City Power authorisation.”

Mangena said they believed the man was caught between the high voltage equipment which electrocuted him. The man was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. His colleague was flung out of the chamber by electric force and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Mangena added that City Power was alerted to the incident because the supplying substation tripped on impact. The factory had been isolated and they were investigating the incident.
