Jeppestown pipe replacement project to cost R12 million
JEPPESTOWN – The sewer project is set to ease Jeppestown's residents who have had to deal with constant sewer blockages in the area.
Johannesburg Water has started a sewer pipe replacement project in Jeppestown at a cost of just more than R12 million on 27 November.
According to Joburg Water, residents in Jeppestown have had constant sewer blockages due to ageing infrastructure. The project is set to replace the ageing (and aged) existing sewer infrastructure.
During the start of the pipe replacement project, MMC for Environmental and Infrastructure Nico De Jager was in attendance to inspect the project which is part of the City of Joburg renewal programme in improving the inner-city.
The project has created jobs for 37 general workers and provided opportunities for technical SMME’s and a security company.
The construction includes replacement of just more than 2. 9 km of asbestos cement and concrete pipes with HDPE pipes ranging between 160mm and 200mm in diameter using pipe cracking and the construction of new house connections.
