Number 4: Pirates Sports Club issued with lease cancellation from Johannesburg Property Company

One of the oldest sports clubs in the country, Pirates Club, is on shaky ground with the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) after receiving a cancellation of their lease agreement.

The cancellation was issued as a result of the club allowing WastePreneurs to operate on their property. WastePreneurs currently operates under Adopt-A-Project and ADreach on the property of Pirates Club on Victory Road in Greenside which is adjacent to Pikitup.

Following WastePreneur’s victory in obtaining an interdict against JPC as reported in Are they able to stay? [Week ending 22 November], the Gazette spoke to JPC to hear their perspective on the matter.

Executive manager for client business operations at JPC, Fanis Sardianos said, “This was merely an interdict, JPC will await the applicant’s application for part B of the relief sought which will deal with the merits of the matter. JPC will deal with the application accordingly.”

The chair of Adopt-A-Project, Steve Jourdan said, “WastePreneurs are delighted with the outcome of the interdict which will preserve the livelihoods of the WastePreneurs.”
