Luxurious mansion for sale comes with a Rolls Royce
HOUGHTON – Not only was the Gatsby Mansion in Houghton reduced from R120 million but now it comes with a Rolls Royce.
A multi-million-rand property in Houghton is up for sale for the price of R92 million. It is, however, not the first time the property has been on the purchase table as it was originally being sold for R120 million, according to reports. Not only does the potential owner obtain the expansive, luxurious property but there is also a Rolls Royce in the mix.
CEO of Chas Everitt Luxury Portfolio Rory O’Hagan explained that adding the lavish vehicle was a deliberate marketing strategy as there is still a demand for luxury homes despite the hard economic situation of the country. “In this day and age, you need to be creative with your marketing. We thought it’s a different angle to offer a car with the house. We thought let’s do something that’s not standard in a house that is a luxury property.”
The private residence was named ‘Gatsby Mansion’ in honour of the extravagant mansion that The Great Gatsby author Scott Fitzgerald’s character Jay Gatsby built to impress his lover. The 2 000m² home has a four-level structure, with rare artworks, a gymnasium, conference facilities, a private nightclub, spa, a heated indoor pool and outdoor training pool.
There is also state-of-the-art security and surveillance systems. iPads are fitted to the walls, which puts switching off lights or playing music a touch of a button away. Each of the rooms overlooks the living space and the indoor pool and bar. The home is fitted with solid marble guard-rails from Turkey. The glass stretch in the living area gives one a beautiful view of the Johannesburg skyline.
The mansion was designed and built by the Pellerade Design Group and features eight glamorous en-suite bedrooms with luxurious custom-made furnishings. The house took eight years to complete with six of those being dedicated to the earthworks.
“To give you an idea, you have a hill. You can imagine the first terrace is going up eight metres. You have to fill it with soil, then you have another terrace and another,” Stephen Pellerade, CEO of Pellerade Design Group explained.
He said they were lucky because at the time, they were able to strike a deal with the City of Johannesburg when the Gautrain company removed soil from Rosebank. “So, we had the soil brought here by truck, probably a few hundred trucks a day, depositing the soil for the period of 18 months,” said Pellerade.
The Gatsby will be sold, fully furnished with hand-picked antiques and period pieces from around the world, and other specially-commissioned modern pieces.
