Two suspects nabbed by police with counterfeit goods in Norwood

NORWOOD – An investigation continues to determine the origin of the consignment.


The Johannesburg Flying Squad police unit arrested two male suspects on 19 January in Norwood for possession of counterfeit goods.

According to the spokesperson for the unit, senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo, the suspects were found in a possession of LCD screens for different cell phones.

He added that the suspects were arrested on the corner of Schultz and Dorothy streets in Norwood following a tip-off. “Members followed up on information of suspects that were [allegedly] involved in counterfeit goods,” said Sambo.

“Upon arrival, a thorough search was conducted and LCD cell phone screens estimated to the street value of R1 million were recovered. Two suspects were subsequently placed under arrested and detained at Norwood SAPS.”

The investigation continues to determine the origin of the consignment. Police have thanked members of the public and further encouraged them to continue to collaborate with the police by reporting crime and any suspicious persons and activities.

The two suspects, aged 24 and 35, are expected to appear at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
