Norwood policing forum elective meeting a huge a success
NORWOOD – The new committee is expected to be in office for five years.
A new executive committee for the Norwood community policing forum (NCPF) was successfully elected in favour at a public meeting held at the Norwood Police Station.
The meeting was attended by various stakeholders including the police management, local residents’ associations’ members as well as the residents and local business owners.
It is believed that all the four sectors that fall under the Norwood precinct are represented which is a fantastic achievement.
The new elected NCPF top brass will represent all of the various communities and geographical areas, thereby working for all who live or work within its reach.
The nomination for all positions was allegedly done in accordance with the rule and regulations, overseen by Thabo Thipe from the office of the Department of Community Safety.
As a presiding officer on the night, Thipe said the elections went well adding that people came in droves to ensure its success.
According to Thipe, all the four sectors that make up the NCPF and police precinct were represented accordingly judging by the number of people who were at the meeting.
As for the newly elected executive members, he said the contestants were elected into their six positions uncontested.
“Starting from the nominations forms I could see myself that the process was properly done in accordance with what the law required,” Thipe said.
He then advised the newly elected chairperson of NCPF Colin Wasserfall to work hard to ensure that the station is properly coordinated.
As for in the communities, he said most issues are not really police station orientated but concerns issues of by-laws which can be much better handled by the Johannesburg Metro Police.
The new committee is expected to be in office for five years and according to Thipe, CPF structures are a work in progress adding that it requires hard work.
Wasserfall said he is excited about his election as the chairperson of the NCPF adding that he is looking forward to fighting crime in the area.
He, however, confirmed that there is quite a lot that still needs to be done but he is up for the task ahead.
“The whole meaning of this is to combat crime and I’m content about this role and even quite excited to make a difference in my area,” said Wasserfall.
