Two fatalities after minibus taxi overturns at Glenhove Road offramp in Melrose
MELROSE – About 10 people are said to have sustained injuries in the crash that claimed the lives of two people.
A minibus taxi overturned at the Glenhove offramp in Melrose during the early hours of this morning (3 March). The accident took place at approximately 6am.
A spokesperson for Netcare 911, Shawn Herbst said it appears the taxi collided with the Armco barrier and then rolled a few times before coming to a standstill.
Herbst added that several patients were ejected from the vehicle. “Multiple other patients were removed by private ambulance services,” he added.
About 10 patients are said to have been injured in the accident. Their injuries range from moderate to serious.
Herbst confirmed that two people, one male, and one female, succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead on the scene.
M1 north is still partially closed with only one lane open. Traffic is heavily affected.

Spokesperson of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said that the cause of the accident is unknown currently but an investigation is underway.
