Be on your guard against theft of and out of motor vehicle

PARKVIEW – Residents should heed these preventative measures to curb theft of or out of motor vehicle.

Since the beginning of March, Parkview police have received an increased number of cases reported of theft of motor vehicle.

Spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko issued a number of safety tips for residents and motorists regarding theft out of motor vehicle and theft of a motor vehicle.

She advised the following:

  • Ensure your vehicle is locked and your alarm is activated even if you are only away from your vehicle for a few minutes
  • Ensure doors and windows are properly closed
  • Never leave valuable such as jewellery, laptops, cell phones and handbags unattended
  • Keep valuable items out of sight
  • Never leave your car unlocked, even for a few minutes
  • An audible alarm, which activates as soon as the door or window is opened or broken attracts attention which the criminal does not want
  • The quicker a stolen vehicle is reported, the better the chance of recovery
  • Always make every effort to park behind a locked gate
  • Avoid parking your vehicle in the street or in a driveway as suspects see the opportunity to break into the car.
