A man posing as a beggar at the intersection of Thora Crescent and Old Pretoria Main roads in Wynberg was arrested on 18 March for attempted robbery by Bramley police.
Bramley Police Station spokesperson, Captain Molefe Mogodi said, “The victim alleged that a man who seemed to be a beggar, approached his vehicle and showed him a firearm. The complainant reversed and saw police officers who are attached to the crime combating unit and alerted them. The suspect was arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station.”
The police were closing the net on suspects who were terrorising motorists at what was termed a hijacking hotspot in Wynberg, he added.

“The three men allegedly forced the victim out of her vehicle, got in and drove away. The crime was reported to the police. The detectives through an intelligence-driven operation searched for and arrested the suspects on 18 March.”
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon, he added.
In a third incident, a 38-year-old man was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen laptop in Kew during a routine police patrol.
Mogodi said the suspect was unable to prove ownership of the laptop and was arrested. The police were investigating.
