A trail of awards for young author

JOBURG – The International Children's Peace Prize seeks to honour children who have made a special effort to promote children's rights and better the situation of vulnerable children.

Stacey Fru scooped up her fourth international award in 19 months.

During the weekend of 25 October, the young author received the Outstanding Young African Entrepreneur at the awards held in South Africa. Stacey’s other awards include the Global Child Prodigy (India, January 2020) and the Pan-African Award for Literary Work (Ghana, September 2019).

Stacey was also the youngest to be awarded during the Arab Africa Youth Platform a World Youth Forum initiative and hosted under the auspices of the President in Egypt, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, as one of five Africa’s most promising youths in March 2019.

Dorcas Gwenhure from the Stacey Fru Foundation shared that Stacey has also been shortlisted for the International Children’s Peace Prize 2020, amongst 142 children from 42 countries. The International Children’s Peace Prize seeks to honour children who have made a special effort to promote children’s rights and better the situation of vulnerable children.

Stacey, who has currently won over 20 international and national awards and recognitions, bagged the highly commended nomination for being at the forefront of literacy, safety and security for African children for the past five years.

Special attributes of Stacey’s works that she embarked on in 2015 as a seven-year-old include; publishing five books in four years, getting one of her books in braille and daisy formats, donating her books alongside books from fellow African authors or books written about Africa through the Stacey Fru Foundation to schools, learning and community centres, libraries and other institutions across South Africa and other countries, and pioneering safety and security campaigns for children. Stacey is passionate about the African child.

Gwenhure said, “As we wait for the award winner to be announced on the 13 November, we wish Stacey all the best.”
