Orange Grove Primary receives generous donation from Norwood Pick n Pay
ORANGE GROVE – Ackerman-Berman said that thousands of children go to school hungry every day with numbers growing with many parents losing their jobs during lockdown.
Orange Grove Primary School received food and stationery hampers thanks to Pick n Pay Norwood Hypermarket recently.
The Back-to-School Food Drive is a partnership between Pick n Pay and Feed the Nation Foundation benefitting learners at 40 schools nationwide to the value of R200 000.
Local Pick n Pay stores also set up collection trolleys in February where customers donated food or stationery to supplement the R5 000 hampers donated to each school.
The beneficiary schools belong to the Pick n Pay School Club, a public-private educational platform that works within a network of schools to reach more than two million learners and their families each year.
Transformation Director at Pick n Pay Suzanne Ackerman-Berman said, “We have been working with our school network throughout lockdown and with the support of Feed the Nation Foundation, we are happy to help provide some immediate relief for learners in need with basic food and stationery essentials.”

Ackerman-Berman added that thousands of children went to school hungry every day with numbers growing due to the many parents who lost their jobs during the lockdown. “These hampers will be used to support school feeding schemes, local charities or vulnerable learners and their families.”
Customers are urged to donate towards Feed the Nation Foundation at till points in-store.
