SafeParks collabs with CORTAC to combat crime

PARKHURST – SafeParks and Cortac host a crime demonstration in efforts to combat crime.

SafeParks in collaboration with local security company Cortac hosted a demonstration on how to avoid becoming a victim of hijacking and robbery in one’s driveway. SafeParks is a security committee that manages security and safety in Parkhurst.

“Cortac’s Canine team, along with the drone team from Cortac Aviation, gave demonstrations on how the various departments work together to combat crime and make our communities safer,” said Mark Notelovitz, marketing director of Cortac.

Notelovitz told Rosebank Killarney Gazette that armed robberies in driveways occurred throughout the year and residents’ chances of being victims were drastically reduced by being vigilant.

“Victims are often followed home from shopping centres although sometimes these armed robberies are opportunistic.”

The residents were taught fundamental precautions which they must try and adhere to when arriving home, visiting a friend, or arriving at business premises.

These were:

  • Turn down their radios and stop talking to passengers or on their phones
  • Slow down and be aware of their surroundings
  • If they notice any suspicious vehicles or people, drive around the block and call Cortac on 0861 267 822.
  • Should you find yourself the unfortunate victim of an armed robbery in your driveway, try to remain calm, keep your eyes averted, and comply with the robber’s demands.
