MAD lessons to resume

CRAIGHALL PARK – The lessons are conducted in an effort to create awareness on crime prevention.

Crime prevention lessons hosted by Making A Difference (MAD) are set to reopen on 28 May. Founder and head Penny Stein said, “Enormous gratitude for the support of Craigpark Residents Association (CRA) who is helping to get crime-prevention lessons going again – the MAD team are thrilled.

If residents and their staff in our suburb don’t know the dos and don’ts of crime challenges or potential threats, we could become a part the problem. Collectively with good attendance at these lessons we can make sure that this beautiful suburb is not a hunting ground for the criminals.”

She added that strict social distancing will be applied. Steyn who is the co-coordinator; writer and presenter of all crime-prevention lessons said the biggest problem the police have is a lack of information, however, domestics and gardeners do know what goes on in the suburbs. While the CRA contributes to the initial restarting of lessons, Steyn requests R50 per person per month for each lesson.

She said employers and their staff are all welcome to attend and the police will attend whenever possible to add valuable information and build a relationship with the attendees to build their confidence.

The meeting starts promptly at 12pm, registration is at 11.45am and lesson duration is one hour. Meetings are held at Wesleyan Church corner Beaumont and Norfolk avenues on the last Friday of the following months at 12pm:

Month Date Time Address:

  • May 28; 12pm; Wesleyan Church
  • June 25; 12pm; Wesleyan Church

  • August 27; 12pm; Wesleyan Church
  • September 17; 12pm; Wesleyan Church
  • October 29; 12pm; Wesleyan Church

“Registration form is required for all people who have previously attended and new people to update records and assist with admin and reminder SMS to all who attend monthly and to award certificates at year-end function for 100 per cent attendance,” Steyn concluded.
