Parktown Boys’ learner makes waves
PARKTOWN – Parktown Boys' Adam Maule receives his well-deserved recognition for his amazing achievements in swimming.
Parktown Boys’ High School’s Adam Maule has a passion for water sports and is making waves in the water.
Adam Maule is a Grade 8 learner at Parktown Boys’ High School and was recently recognised by the Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA) for his amazing achievements in swimming. Adam was crowned as the Top Eastern Gauteng Aquatics Performer at the Swim South Africa Regional Level 1 event. As a baby, he was taught to swim as part of a water safe programme run at his nursery school; then at his primary school, he participated in a few galas.
But it was at age nine, when he joined Tigger Tiger Swim School in Kensington, that he really discovered his talent for the sport. The swim squad that trains there is known as Roaring Tigers.
In 2018, 11-year-old Adam participated in a few local galas and in the middle of 2019, joined a club and started actively participating in EGA. His first taste of regional swimming was held in mid-winter, and since then he has never looked back. At the end of 2019, Swim SA held their regional finals against other clubs from Gauteng.

It was here that Adam attained an 11-medal haul for his efforts in the level 1 races and was named the top male swimmer of the day. He received his award at the recent EGA prize-giving, an event which was delayed due to the impact of last year’s Covid-19 restrictions.
“That event was intense – every time I climbed out the pool, I had to fetch another medal, but I knew I had worked hard for it, and I was proud of myself and of course of my coach, Tertia Biffi. She’s a slave driver, but those medals make it all worth it,” said Adam.
“I try and participate in as many events as possible, even though it means getting up really early on Saturdays and Sundays. But I have a dream that one day I’ll represent my country, so I’ll do all I can to make it a reality. I also can’t wait to represent Parktown Boys’ at both swimming and water polo in summer and to give back to this school that has shown its trust in me and my abilities.”
Adam is also a budding water polo player and is part of the Eastern Gauteng team currently training for the year-end championship.
“I have attained all my level 2 times for under 15. My next goal is to break the level 3 times for my age by March 2022, and then on to South African National Juniors,” concluded Adam.
