Teen assaulted at Emmarentia Botanical Gardens

EMMARENTIA – Parkview Police Station says the teen was stabbed in her hand while she walked her dog.

Parkview Police Station is investigating a case of armed robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) that occurred in Emmarentia.

A complainant alleged that on August 28 his 17-year-old daughter went to Emmarentia Botanical Gardens with her dog and at about 17:50 he received a call asking him to fetch her. Upon arrival she was not found, and the complainant realised he did not have his phone with him, so he went back home to get his phone.

The station’s spoekesperson, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, said he returned to the gardens and found his teenage daughter, bleeding from her hand, walking toward the gate with the dog. “His daughter indicated to him that she was accosted by four unknown men who were armed with a knife and a gun, demanding her belongings.”

The suspect with a knife stabbed the victim in the palm of her hand, ripped her jacket using a knife until he found her cellphone. Sibeko said while she was being stabbed, the other suspect had a firearm pointed at her head and threatening to shoot her. “The suspects fled the scene on foot and the victim received medical attention after the incident.”

Sibeko added that for the community to ensure their safety when visiting sites like these is to be vigilant, always observe their surroundings. Leave valuable items such as cellphones, wallets and cameras at home.
