For the love of ballet

PARKHURST – Dancers from the Russian School Of Ballet recently put on a stunning solo performance for a select audience.

Every dancer longs for a moment on stage.

This is exactly what the dancers of the Russian School of Ballet were given on Sunday evening (September 12), when they put on solo ballet and contemporary dance performances for a select audience in Parkhurst, under strict Covid-19 protocol.

School director Yana Auger explained that along with everyone, the school’s ballerinas had to adapt to new procedures during the pandemic and, at the moment, were enjoying hybrid lessons – including online and on-site lessons, depending on the level of lockdown and unique concerns of each dancer.

She said the Solo Night performance on Sunday had been scheduled for earlier this year but had to be rescheduled when the third wave of the virus broke out.

“Last year, it was difficult to perform, but this year we were fortunate enough to be on stage on April, and then to perform for a small audience of loved ones on Sunday.”
Speaking of her love for the arts and for ballet, she explained her school of ballerinas were taught to think and express themselves as artistes, but to train like athletes. She said performing was what they loved the most and that they deserved their time in the spotlight, having put in lots of hard work during the pandemic period.

She said she anticipated next year would be a more productive year, with many opportunities to perform on stage, to lots of people.
