Greenside learners express their individuality on Valentine’s Day

GREENSIDE – Learners also had the option of donating blood, with the Sanbs team on the school campus.

Learners of Greenside High School expressed their individuality and let their hair down on the day of love – February 14.

The school arranged a festive Valentine’s Day where learners enjoyed entertainment from DJs including MajorSteez, Costa Titch and Troskii among others.

Speaking to the Gazette, Troskii said he decided to perform free of charge for his alma mater to gain publicity for his events company, URL Circle Entertainment and other big-name artists. He matriculated in 2018.

While some learners opted to dance with their friends, others relaxed alongside their Valentine while enjoying some home-baked cupcakes while others played sports including basketball and soccer.

Marketing manager at the school Marcos Diez said, “Valentine’s Day is not just about celebrating romantic love, but also the idea of giving children something fun and exciting to look forward to in order to make their education more holistic.”

Learners also had the option of donating blood, with the Sanbs team on the school campus.

The Givers school charity club sold cupcakes and other sweet treats to raise funds for The Children’s Cardiac Foundation.

“We want to send a message to the learners that as much as we push them academically and on the sports field, we also realise that there needs to be balanced. This is how we repay learners for their hard work.”

Prefect Lee Dikgale said the school traditionally celebrated February 14, with some learners proposing their Valentine’s love to others, while other learners just enjoyed the day on the sports field.

Another prefect Thando Mulaudzi said she was impressed that the school could pull this day off after having no celebrations last year due to Covid-19.
