A celebration of Easter and beautiful heritage

With a little cold and no rain, the Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents’ Association (Sapra) Easter Picnic and Easter Egg Hunt went ahead as planned.

Sapra secretary Marcelle Ravid said she, together with Sapra’s Fearnhead Park portfolio veteran Tracy Davis, pulled off the event with aplomb on April 9.

There was champagne, eats, drinks, games for the children, a face painter, a raffle and even a dog demonstration by Community Active Protection.

Ravid said the aim of the morning was to bring the Saxonwold and Parkwood community together in the beautiful, heritage Fearnhead Park on Dudley Road, Parkwood. “A group of moms are keen to build some community spirit and upgrade the play equipment at the park to try to draw families and residents to the park. This was one way of raising funds,” she said.

“Sapra is providing a platform to assist with this, and more of these events will be held in the park hosted by residents and Sapra – so watch your favourite local newspaper for details.”

Ravid added that Alison Levesley, Bronwyn Crosse and Lenore Beilings deserved a huge round of applause for their personal donations and input to create the fabulous fun atmosphere and community spirit. She said, “The Easter egg hunt was a roaring success, exciting all the young children in attendance. An anonymous donation of R3 000 was given by one generous resident to cover costs and most participants were only too happy to pay for a good cause. Over R3 000 was raised for the park.”

Sapra is aimed at providing support to residents and to address any concerns they may have. They are also now working to improve connectivity between residents and help build a safe and friendly community.
