Sports talent heads for championships

A local school in Waverley has performed well in various sports.

Several selections from St Mary’s School, Waverley, were recently been celebrated.

On May 19, Grade 12 learner Kerry Grundlingh was selected to represent Rowing South Africa at the 2022 World Rowing U19 Championships to be held in Varese, Italy, from 27 to 31 July.

Head of marketing at St Mary’s School, Waverley, Kathy Mittendorf also shared that head rowing coach Caitlin Dace was selected as head coach of the South African U19 rowing team. She added that six girls and eight boys were selected for this team.

On May 23, Grade 10 learner Zalika Methula was selected to represent South Africa at the Senior World Diving Championships which will take place in Budapest from June 24 to July 3. Mittendorf said, “For Zalika, this is the opportunity she has been waiting for to compete against the best divers in the world. It is also the first of the qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.”
