11 arrested for drunken driving

Joint drunk and driving operation in Houghton brings in 11.

A roadblock held in Houghton resulted in 11 drivers being arrested for drunken driving.

Norwood Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha reported that the arrested drivers spent the weekend in custody on May 27.

“A joint operation between the Norwood South African Police Service and Johannesburg Metro Police Department brought 11 drunk drivers to book. The roadblock was held at the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and Houghton Drive.

“The operation was successful under the supervision of Norwood Vispol Commander Lieutenant Colonel Prince Mogaila,” said Masotsha.

He added that all the arrested drivers would appear in court in due course. “We thank the Department of Health who [made available] sister Lorraine Ntozekhe who played a vital role in drawing blood from all the arrested drunk drivers.”
