Suspect found in possession of drugs

Norwood police nab one in possession of drugs during patrol in Orange Grove.

One suspect was put behind bars by the Norwood police after being found in possession of drugs. Spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said the suspect was arrested on the afternoon of May 20.

“Members were on duty in full uniform performing their routine duties of patrols in Orange Grove. At the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and 7th Street, members spotted two suspicious guys who were exchanging something. They moved closer to where the perpetrators were and when they (perpetrators) realized it was the police who was driving an unmarked sedan they ran away,” said Sergeant Masotsha.

He added that the police managed to arrest one suspect who ran towards 6th Avenue in Orange Grove. They searched him and on the front right pocket of his trouser they found one black plastic bag with drugs.

“As the police had already identified themselves to him, suspect was told he was under arrest for being found in possession of drugs. He was transported to Norwood Police Station cells for formal detention without any visible injuries. He will appear before court of law in due course,” concluded the spokesperson.
