Active day for the Park Care residents

Park Care Centre's Jaqui Smith hopes that Covid-19 regulations ease for care centres so that volunteers and family members can join them next year.

Park Care Centre in Parktown West hosted a fun-filled boeresport day on June 10.

The day consisted of multiple contests, which enabled almost all the residents to participate. The residents enjoyed various activities – from keeping balloons in the air to putting soft balls into baskets.

Jaqui Smith, the business development officer for Park Care said the day was aimed at building Father’s Day memories for all the men at Park Care. She added that they hosted the event with little resources as the centre relies on donations from families and community members to keep it running.

Smith hoped that volunteers and family members can join them next year if Covid-19 regulations ease for care centres.

Virginia Rose Rowe, a resident participated in beanbag and ball games from her wheelchair, said it was the most fun she has had since she can remember. “This is what a real party should be like,” Rowe added.
