Suspects caught draining diesel

Municipality tower in Waverley subject to illegal activity as Norwood police arrest suspects stealing diesel inside.

A member of the public alerted a local security company of suspicious illegal activity on municipal property.

The tip-off alerted the security company that people had entered a Vodacom tower in Waverley and were doing something illegal. Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha said the security member went to the location and found two suspects ‘busy draining diesel from the tower machine, and exhibits were six plastic containers with diesel, five 25-litre containers filled with diesel, one 20-litre container with quarter diesel and two empty containers’.

“Both suspects were apprehended and police were called to conduct a formal [arrest on July 3] with no visible injuries to the suspects. Recovered exhibits were booked at the Norwood SAPS as evidence before a court of law.”

The spokesperson said both suspects appeared in court on July 4.

Masotsha said Norwood police management appreciated the good working relationship with the local security company in the protection of the valued community.
