Parkview SAPS provides safety tips

Parkview Police Station has experienced an increase in the number of cases of theft from a motor vehicle.

The Parkview Police Station issued safety tips for residents and motorists as preventative measures for theft, from and out of a motor vehicle.

The station’s spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko urged residents to follow these safety tips:

  • Ensure that your vehicle is locked, that your alarm system is activated even if you will only be away from the vehicle for a few minutes and that windows and doors are properly closed and locked.
  • Never leave valuables such as jewellery, laptops, cellphones, and handbags unattended, it is important to keep valuable items out of sight.
  • An audible alarm, which activates as soon as the door or window is opened or broken attracts attention which is something that a criminal does not want.
  • The quicker a stolen vehicle is reported the better the chance of recovery.
  • Always make every effort to park behind a locked gate.
  • Residents must avoid parking their vehicles on the street or driveway as suspects always see this as an opportunity to break into the car.
  • Avoid putting valuable items in the vehicle in plain sight, as the culprits may see this as an opportunity to break into the vehicle.
