St John’s College will host the 19th basketball tournament, sponsored by Standard Bank from February 22-25.

Sixty-two teams from Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu Natal, as well as neighbouring Eswatini and Zimbabwe, will compete in the tournament.

Head of marketing and communications Jacqui Deeks said the competition format included a round-robin phase, with the top sides going on to play in the knockout stages in the U19 and U15 age-group categories.

“The U13 teams will enjoy a festival format. The four-day event promises loads of fun for the whole family with food vendors providing plenty to eat and drink, a bar that will be open from 10:00-18:00, and chill-out lounges to relax between games.”

Tickets are R50 and available for purchase through Webtickets or at the gate. A limited number of hospitality tickets are also available for R200, providing access to exclusive seating at the main court and the VIP tent with its own bar and food offering.

Games will be live streamed from the courts.

St John’s College’s headmaster, Stuart West noted that there were so many valuable character-building lessons to be learned on the courts — passion, commitment, hard work, perseverance, and dealing with success or disappointment graciously.

“We encourage our players to commit to good sportsmanship, healthy rivalry, and fair play throughout the tournament as we celebrate the new friendships made this weekend.”
