Old Parks cricket restores the relationship with Parktown Boys

Old Park coach Richard Wood said that the event was fruitful and the school is already sending them players that they are short off

Cricket fans enjoyed music during a fun cricket match between the Old Parks Chairmen’s 11 and the first team of Parktown Boys’ High School.

The historic cricket game was made to revive the relationship between the school and the sports club. They had a strong relationship over the years and the Old Parks was made up mostly of the Old Boys of Parktown.

The head coach of Old Parks Richard Wood explained that this event was started to reignite their relationship. “Over the years we have lost that relationship and lost players coming through to our club. They choose other clubs because they do not know what we are about, and some do not even know we are here.”

The match was excellent with both teams pulling outstanding performances.

“The boys played well in batting, bowling, and fielding they were superb. With regards to the day, it was a big success, I got a chance to meet their players and coaches. I think we have now built a relationship back between school and club which I am hoping will carry on for many years to come. “

Old Parks bowled first and recorded a score of 139/7 however Parktown Boys’ High School recorded 140/6 and won by 4 wickets.

To make sure that they keep the relationship going both teams decided that they would play for a trophy twice a season. At the beginning and towards the end.

The Parktown Band entertained the crowd with beautiful performances of different songs throughout the game.

“I look forward to doing this more in the future and to working with the school players.”
