JRA sheds some light on the Riviera and Oxford Road traffic intersection

Riviera and Oxford Road traffic lights were not working due to a power supply fault.

The Johannesburg Road Agency confirmed on March 8 that the traffic lights on Riviera and Oxford Road are working after a power supply fault resulted in the traffic lights not working for over four weeks.

Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents’ Association (Sapra) member, Marcelle Ravid reached out to the publication on March 4 and said the traffic lights on Riviera and Oxford Road not working not only posed a danger to motorists but pedestrians as well.

The JRA’s acting head of department for mobility and freight, Sipho Nhlapo explained that the road agency was aware of faulty traffic lights which have been off due to a power supply fault.

“City Power has been working to resolve the power issue since the call was logged on February 14. Following an escalation on the logged call, City Power dispatched their technical team on March 6 and the power failure was resolved by the afternoon and the traffic signals are currently working.”

Ward councillor 117, Tim Truluck added that when he enquired to the City of Johannesburg regarding the traffic lights that were not working, his inquiry was escalated to JMPD and Social Development.

JMPD’s spokesperson, Superintendent Xolani Fihla weighed in on the matter, “Both the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Region B and Region E offices have not been made aware of this matter. Matters of traffic lights not working in the City of Johannesburg must be reported to JRA or City Power if it is a matter of faulty electrical cables.”
