St Teresa’s School learner’s netball dreams come true

St Teresa's School Edam Afordofe began playing netball in Grade 3 and has been honing her skills ever since.

Edem Afordofe has nurtured the dream of playing in the Central Gauteng Netball at the 2024 inter-provincial tournament since the tender age of 11 and it’s finally come true.

Edem began playing netball in Grade 3 and has been consistent with the sport since Grade 4 after her coach complemented her skills on the court.

“This was my first trial and I’m proud to say I made it to the squad after three rounds of trials. It feels so great to see that my hard work behind the scenes has been recognised.”

The netball player added that she had a timetable to help juggle her academics and extramural activities which include public speaking and swimming.

“My typical day would be to get to school at 06:00 for swimming training followed by school starting at 07:30. My school day ends at 14:30 and from there, I go to public speaking then go home to have a quick meal and do my homework. If it’s a Wednesday I go play my netball matches.”

Afordofe concluded that she had dreams of one day being part of varsity netball, followed by provincial netball, and then hopefully qualifying for the South African national team.
