Power outage at Lethabo Raw Water Pumping Station to interrupt water supply
Rand Water’s Lethabo Raw Water Pumping Station experienced a power outage on February 16, resulting in no water being pumped at the Vereeniging Water Purification Plant, which will cause water supply issues for a lot of Gauteng.

This incident will cause water supply interruptions affecting customers served by the VVS system (Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, and Sasolburg), as well as the Forest Hill, Yeoville, Benoni, and Eikenhof systems.
Eskom’s team was dispatched to the site, where they identified the damaged insulators and restored power. Although power has been restored, Rand Water requires several hours to resume pumping at full capacity at the Amanzimtoti, Eikenhof, and Zwartkopjes stations.

The following municipalities will be affected: Emfuleni, Metsimaholo, Midvaal, Ngwathe, Rustenburg, Royal Bafokeng Administration, Rand West, Merafong, Mogale City, as well as the Cities of Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.
The recent power outage follows a total power supply failure reported by Rand Water at the Emfuleni power substation, which affected the Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant on February 11.
Some direct customers, industries, and mines will also be impacted.
