Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association sees progress on Parkhurst’s road repairs

Getting Johannesburg’s roads fixed is no easy task, but the Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association is working hard to make it happen.

After months of persistence, patience, and a fair share of frustration, the Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association (PRABOA) is finally seeing progress in their mission to fix the suburb’s roads.

It’s no secret that getting Johannesburg’s roads repaired is an uphill battle, but PRABOA, refusing to accept the status quo, has been hard at work. Collecting data, logging service requests, and liaising with both Johannesburg Water (JW) and Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), alongside their ward councillor, their efforts seem to be paying off.

A recent meeting with JRA representatives proved to be a breakthrough. PRABOA is now in a position to actively track Parkhurst’s city faults, and push for their resolution. There’s already evidence that this partnership is bearing fruit.

Take, for example, the infamous trench on 17th Street. A long-standing neighbourhood eyesore and potential axle-breaker, the trench has finally been repaired, though not without a bit of drama. Just when residents thought they could breathe easy, a pipe burst threw a spanner in the works. Fortunately, this was quickly addressed, and the road is now in better shape than it’s been in ages.

Meanwhile, the sneaky potholes playing connect-the-dots between 10th and 6th streets have also been patched up. While it’s too soon to declare victory, these small wins hint at a turning tide for Parkhurst’s infrastructure woes.

Parkhurst residents are determined that the community can, and will, step up to drive change.
