Verity Park hosts weekly mindfulness and stretching sessions
A peaceful yoga session is helping Parkhurst residents pause, breathe, and reset every Thursday morning.
A quiet and calming scene plays out every Thursday morning at Verity Park in Parkhurst, where a small group of nannies gathers for mindful movement sessions under the trees.
Led by yoga teacher Lauren Wilshere, the sessions offer gentle stretches, breathing exercises, and moments of mindfulness to help people reset before their day begins.

“It’s not about how flexible you are,” said Wilshere. “It’s about creating space to breathe, move, and reconnect with ourselves and with others.”
Wilshere recently began teaching yoga full-time after several years of working privately and in studios. Instead of setting up a business, she chose to build something more community-based.
The sessions aim to be welcoming and accessible to all. Nannies, mums, and locals from the area join in when they can. Some bring little ones, and others simply come to enjoy the peaceful setting.
Nelia Nglube, a regular participant, said, “Mindful movement is wonderful. I love it. It helps me relax and feel ready for the day.”
The group hopes to grow slowly and naturally, with plans for sessions suited to mothers with young children and anyone needing a quiet space.
The next Mindful Movement in the parks session takes place on Thursday, July 17, from 09:15 to 10:00 and the nannies of Parkhurst session from 10:15 to 11:00 at Verity Park, Parkhurst. All are welcome. No experience is needed.
