“Word had been going around that I might get the position, but it did little to reassure me. I had already made peace with the possibility that my goal might not be reached.”
She added that to have even made it onto the RCL council among about 200 Grade 11 candidates was a blessing in itself.
“God blessed me with a prayer I kept deep in my heart, and I am so grateful that He made it a reality,” she noted.
The leader is keen to serve her peers and explained that leadership means the people who voted for her trust her to help them, to stand up for them in rooms they can’t be in, and to represent their voices fairly.
Ngwedi explained that she was voted into the role.

“The process begins with the Grade 11s voting internally for 20 people they see fit for leadership. Each learner can select up to 20 candidates, including themselves, and from that vote, 40 people move on to the next stage, made up of student-led interviews.“
During these interviews, candidates are awarded points based on a rubric that evaluates their school involvement, including community service, extracurricular participation, and attendance. From there, the top 20 candidates, determined by their interview scores, involvement, and votes, make it onto the final Senior Council.
The Grade 11 learner is no stranger to leadership roles, but has been part of the RCL since Grade 9 and will also serve as vice-captain for Community Service and Marimbas.
She highlighted that she wants to continue embodying kindness and love in everything she does, while reflecting Jesus through her leadership.
“That’s how I will know and remember the ‘how’ and ‘why’ behind everything I do in this position. Through this role, I hope to foster transparency and open communication, helping learners see why they should love and take pride in this institution and how to make the most of everything it has to offer.”
