Norwood CPF reflects on a standout 2025

A year of high-profile policing, everyday heroism, and strong partnerships has left Norwood safer, more united, and ready to face 2026 with confidence.

Norwood Community Policing Forum (CPF) reflects on a year defined by co-operation, resilience, and a shared commitment to keeping the precinct safe, connected, and confident.

At the heart of the year’s achievements was the outstanding performance of the Norwood Police Station, whose officers rose to the challenge of safeguarding the community during a demanding and high-profile period.

The precinct played a key role in hosting G20 side events and accommodating presidential and other senior international delegations in the Melrose area – a responsibility that brought global attention right to Norwood’s doorstep.

The complex operations required meticulous planning, constant vigilance, and seamless co-ordination between multiple role players.

Working alongside private security companies, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, emergency services, and local businesses, the Norwood Police Station ensured that safety, logistics, and diplomacy worked hand in hand.

Reflecting on the year, Norwood CPF chairperson Sunil Geness praised the professionalism shown throughout these operations.

“The dedication and discipline displayed by our station leadership and officers were nothing short of outstanding. Their work strengthened public confidence and showed, once again, what is possible when law enforcement and the community stand together.”

Beyond these major events, 2025 was also marked by steady, ground-level progress in addressing long-standing community concerns. Targeted anti-crime operations, increased visibility patrols, improved communication with residents, and meaningful social outreach initiatives all contributed to making Norwood one of the city’s most engaged and co-operative precincts.

Geness also paid tribute to the Norwood CPF executive committee and the Patrollers in Blue, volunteers often described as the quiet backbone of community safety. “These are everyday heroes who give their time and energy to serve their neighbours. Their commitment and resilience continue to uplift the spirit of partnership that defines Norwood.”

As the festive season approaches, the CPF is urging residents to enjoy the holidays responsibly, while keeping safety front of mind.

Simple precautions, such as securing homes and vehicles, avoiding the display of valuables, celebrating responsibly, and reporting suspicious behaviour can make a significant difference. Residents are also encouraged to look out for one another, particularly elderly neighbours and those who may be spending the holidays alone.

Closing off the year, Geness extended warm wishes to the entire community. “On behalf of the Norwood CPF executive committee, I wish all our residents, partners, and stakeholders a safe and joyous festive season.

May 2026 bring continued progress, unity, and shared pride as we work together to build a safer, more caring Norwood for all.”
