City of Johannesburg’s blitz operation resulted in notices for non-compliance and by-law education

City of Johannesburg embarks on blitz operations every Thursday.

The City of Johannesburg organised a multi-disciplinary Blitz Operation in Bramley View on February 12.

Organisations involved included Citizen Relationship and Urban Management, Environmental Health, Building Development Management, Emergency Management Services, Land Use Management, Department of Economic Development, Joburg Property Company and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

The city’s community engagement officer, Tumisho Matsane, said the multi-disciplinary blitz operation took place in different wards every Thursday.

Matsane explained that the following data was captured from Bramley’s blitz operation:

  • Environmental Health issued 5 notices for non-compliance with health regulations.
  •  Building Development Management issued 3 notices for non-compliance with building regulations.
  • Land Use Management issued 2 notices for non-compliance with Land Use Regulations.
  • Department of Economic Development conducted verification of street traders at Central Johannesburg College, educating 29 traders on applicable by-laws.
