Final touchdowns for James at Pridwin

Pridwin learner looks forward to the sports year ahead.

James Hefer reflects on his final year at Pridwin Preparatory School as he prepares to enter high school next year.

Many may recognize Hefer from his viral video, which made headlines three years ago when he asked his mother to stop the car so he could help an informal recycler push his trolley up the hill.

The thirteen-year-old is a strong Pridwin sportsman who is an important member of the rugby, hockey, soccer, basketball, athletics, and cross-country first teams.

He said the biggest challenge he faced this year was competing with boys who were much bigger than him, and that he had to rely on his speed to go the extra mile to make sure he got into the first teams.

“Schoolwork is boring, but sports are worthwhile. Rugby gets my blood boiling, I am short, and people get surprised that I play scrum half, and I feel I can make a difference by being as fast as possible,” Hefer explained.

He added that one of the best days was the amazing basketball festival, which was the first year Pridwin has ever played basketball, and he and his team worked hard and managed to pull off a very surprising victory.

Even though he is a bit nervous about being at St David’s in Inanda High School next year, he looks forward to the next chapter of his life, especially on the sports field.

“I am looking forward to meeting new people on the sports field, as well as different teams, and I know it is going to be tough for me to make teams, but I am planning to give it my best shot,” Hefer said.
