Naidoo, a teacher at Norwood Primary School, began her teaching career in 1989 and said her journey was simply rewarding when she reflected on the years she had spent shaping little minds and the lives of her learners.
“I have 35 years of unbroken continuous teaching service, and in my childhood years I loved teaching the children in the neighbourhood, and that is where this beautiful love for teaching began in the 1970s,” Naidoo added.
She said her greatest achievements were the success of the learners she had taught over the years with many of them established professionals in South Africa and abroad.
“Recalling a quote from a plaque rewarded to me by a learner some 15 years ago: ‘Children are born with wings and teachers to help them to fly,’ and this being a finalist has shown that when you work hard your entire life educating learners and expecting nothing in return, your hard work will be noticed.”
