The Family Life Centre (Famsa) Johannesburg is committed to rebuilding families in 2025

The Family Life Centre (Famsa) Johannesburg aims to have fewer financial challenges and continue making an enormous impact on the lives of vulnerable communities in 2025.

The NPO has been committed to mental health since 1949 and continues to make an impact in the lives of many vulnerable communities such as Alexandra, Diepsloot, Soweto, Westbury and Lenasia South.

Its main focus is rebuilding family structures through various services such as counselling for individuals, couples and families through the different programmes offered.

According to the NPO’s CEO, Jennifer Papers the organisation faced tough financial challenges in 2023/24 when the Department of Social Development delayed funding payouts.

“However, despite this, our team of dedicated social workers reached 12 560 children through our Education For Living Programmes that focus on equipping children with the necessary tools to overcome and advocate for protecting themselves from societal ills. Over
4 000 children were reached through our anti-bullying programme bringing the count to over 16 500.”

Famsa also reached more than 600 parents through its parenting skills programmes, 1 227 families through family therapy and 944 beneficiaries for other types of counselling.

“It has been an enormous year for us and we want to and can reach even more people and children in need with the support that can see mental health services reach those who need the most.”
