JMPD arrested 180 motorists across the City of Johannesburg in one week

The JMPD continues to intensify its focus on drunk driving.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) continues with its zero-tolerance approach to driving under the influence of alcohol, with 180 motorists arrested across the City of Johannesburg between June 23-29.

This intensified focus on drunk driving underscores the JMPD’s unwavering commitment to road safety and protecting all road users within our vibrant city. Driving under the influence remains a major contributing factor to serious accidents, injuries, and fatalities on our roads.

JMPD’’s Chief of Police Commissioner Patrick Jaca said, “”The statistics from the past week are a stark reminder of the ongoing challenge posed by drunk driving. Our officers continue to work tirelessly, day and night, to remove intoxicated drivers from our roads, thereby preventing potential tragedies.”

The JMPD urged all motorists to act responsibly. If you plan to consume alcohol, make alternative arrangements for your transportation.

Designate a sober driver, use public transport, or utilise e-hailing services. Planning ahead can save lives and prevent devastating consequences.
