KnitWits stitch love and laughter at Spring into Summer Knitathon

Needles clicked, music played and friendships bloomed as the 67 Blankets family welcomed spring with a celebration of creativity and kindness.

The KnitWits gathered with yarn and needles in hand, creating blankets that will one day offer warmth and dignity to those in need. The atmosphere was a blend of creativity and camaraderie, as even newcomers and non-knitters were encouraged to join in, sip cappuccinos, and simply enjoy the energy of the day.

Live performances by the talented Kristel Birkholtz on violin and Jacques Lagesse on guitar set a lively rhythm to the gentle clicking of needles. To add to the fun, prizes awaited those donning the most striking spring-inspired hats and outfits, while volunteers were always ready to guide learner knitters through their first stitches.

The Knitathon was, above all, a tribute to Carolyn Steyn, founder of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela, whose vision continues to inspire thousands of South Africans to turn thread into hope. As blankets grow row by row, so too does the sense of purpose, community and joy that marks every gathering of this extraordinary family.
