Ronald McDonald House provides accommodation for families with sick children, to stay at little to no cost, while their child is receiving critical medical care at the hospital.

Those in attendance, on September 30 in Parktown, at The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, were given snippets of the first 15 minutes of two episodes, which included: Driving active stewardship and servant leadership and prioritising mental health for mothers and guardians at the Ronald McDonald House SA.

RMHC’s business development manager Nomusa Mdangayi introduced the second episode, prioritising mental health for mothers and guardians at the Ronald McDonald House SA and explained its relevance.

“This was a very pivotal moment for us. For us to engage around brand storytelling, how we show people’s realities, and how we enhance these stories to make sure that one understands RMHC’s values. One of the things that I wanted discussed in the podcast was the mental wellness of parents.”

Paediatrician Dr Nokukhanya Khanyile-Lenake, who was featured in the podcast, commended the RMHC’s work in involving parents in their children’s health journeys.

“It’s helpful to be able to talk to a parent, face to face, because they are upstairs from the hospital. RMCH has helped us as medical doctors, as well as in terms of offering the support they do.”

RMHC’s beneficiary Lerato Magazi said she was grateful to have received the support she did from the house and its staff.

“Our journey, with the Ronald McDonald House Charities, began in 2020, after being referred from Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital. My daughter was diagnosed with encephalocele a month after her birth, and the journey has not been easy.

There have been surgeries that had to be done, but the Ronald McDonald House Charities has been on our side, supporting us.”

Founder of RMHC SA, Reggie Skhosana said it was fulfilling to see the podcast come to life.
