“Egoli Squash are a much bigger team located in the inner city and coaches approximately 800 children. We interact with Egoli as much as possible, because they [Thusong] learn from them, and the Egoli squash team have had longer training.”

Programme facilitator at Thusong Centre, Chris Ndlovu, highlighted that sports were an important and necessary distraction for the players.
“Our players are mainly from Alexandra township, where they come from different and challenging backgrounds, so we began the sport as a healthy outlet. We are also introducing them to tournaments where they will learn new skills and techniques.”
Egoli Squash coach, Rowney Mabaso, concluded that the friendly tournament was aimed at enhancing the players’ skills of playing the sport.
