Wanderers bowlers kick off festive contest with sunshine, smiles, and spirited play
The Wanderers Bowls Club opened its light-hearted three-week summer competition with laughter, friendly rivalry, and a touch of December mischief.
The Wanderers Bowls Club burst into summer cheer on December 7, as members stepped onto the greens for the first round of a playful three-week competition designed to bring people together as the year winds down.
Under a hot summer sun, bowlers swapped their usual serious faces for sunhats, jokes, and plenty of good-natured rivalry.

The format added to the fun, a uniquely individual contest played in groups of six, where each end is scored bowl by bowl. The closest delivery to the jack earns three points, the second earns two, and the third earns one. At the end of three consecutive Sundays, all points are tallied, and prizes await the top three scorers.
The spirit on the day went far beyond numbers. Members cheered one another on, shared laughs on the sidelines, and enjoyed the relaxed, festive feel that only a December competition can bring. It was a reminder that bowls, at its heart, is as much about community as it is about precision.

The fun is far from over. Next Sunday promises an explosion of personality as players return wearing crazy hats, turning the greens into a colourful parade.
The following week, the club will round things off with a humorous twist, men taking to the rinks dressed as ladies, and ladies stepping out as men, all in the name of light-hearted entertainment.
For Wanderers members, it’s simply December joy: Sunshine, sport, and a club community that knows how to celebrate the season together.
