Ward 74 councillor warns of a potential sinkhole in Melrose North

North Street in Melrose North poses potential danger to motorists, as the road continues to sink.

Ward 74 councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjuku is growing concerned about the sinking road surface on North Street in Melrose North.

“I noted, last week, that the road surface is sinking,” Kayser-Echeozonjuku said. “Residents reported the issue to the City of Johannesburg on December 4, but there has been no response to date.”

She added that she has also formally escalated the matter via email to the acting depot manager at Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

The councillor highlighted that while JRA has recently resurfaced several roads in Melrose, the particular section appears to have been completely overlooked.

The publication reached out to JRA for comment and will update the article with their response in due time.
