Two pipes burst on sinking North Street in Melrose North

JRA has halted remedial work required on North Street in Melrose North due to the bursting of two water pipes on the road.

The sinking North Street in Melrose North continues to deteriorate, and now Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has had to halt remedial work due to two pipe bursts on the road, posing a further threat to motorists.

Last month, the publication reported on Ward 74 councillor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjuku’s growing concerns about the sinking road.

Kayser-Echeozonjuku alerted the publication on January 15 that the sinking road was progressively getting worse, especially considering the two burst pipes.

JRA was supposed to begin remedial work on the road this month, but that has now been halted due to the bursts.

The article will be updated with Johannesburg Water’s response in due course.
